Routinely drawing crowds exceeding 10,000 while celebrating the community-building power of hip-hop, the annual Hip-Hop Family Day put on by Love, Peace & Hip-Hop is one of Columbia’s most unique — and uniquely family-friendly — festival offerings. And it turns out that Free Times isn’t the only one taking notice.
National magazine Family Circle named the April event as its top family-friendly happening in South Carolina and one of the top 50 such events in the country in an article published in its current July issue.
“Earn major cool-parent points at this kickin’ (and alcohol-free) party celebrating the positive impact of hip-hop and rap culture through DJs, dance, visual art and interactive exhibits,” the piece says. “Previous headliners have included rap luminaries like Kool Moe Dee, Kid ’n Play and MC Lyte.”
