COLA DAILY: Koger Center to host Hip-Hop Family Day August 19

Columbia's Koger Center may be best known for classical concerts and musical theatre, but on August 19 hip-hop is taking over.
World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day, recognized by Family Circle Magazine as the Top Family-Friendly Festival in South Carolina and among the Top 50 in the nation, will return from a three-year hiatus with the Koger Center's outdoor stage and lawn as the venue.
"This is the 10th year of the festival. It meant a lot to us to get back to things on the 10th year, but the thing that kind of pushed it over the top for me was this also being the 50th anniversary of hip-hop itself, uh, originating in the South Bronx in 1973," said FatRat da Czar, founder of Hip-Hop Family Day and executive director of its parent nonprofit, Love, Peace & Hip-Hop.
"This is the vision that we had when we built the outdoor stage, thousands of people outside in
front on the lawn, doing something for free and celebrating with the whole diverse community," said Koger Center Director Nate Terracio. "Our goal, I think much like Love, Peace and Hip-Hop, is to make Columbia the kind of place that we all want to live. We want to be a supporter of the arts community in general. We want to be doing more of these kind of partnerships. We're so excited to be a part of this." ...continued
