Hip Hop Family Day is back! Celebrate 50 years of hip hop with family and friends for FREE. World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day will feature the legendary Kurtis Blow as its headliner on Saturday, August 19th at the new outdoor stage at the Koger Center for the Arts.

In 1979, at the age of 20, Kurtis Blow became the first rapper to be signed by a major label. Mercury released “Christmas Rappin,” which sold over 400,000 copies and became an annual holiday classic. Its gold followup, “The Breaks,” helped ignite a worldwide hip-hop phenomenon. Blow went on to release 10 albums over 11 years. His full-length debut was entitled “Kurtis Blow.” His second album, the Top 50 Pop album “Deuce,” was a big hit across Europe; “Party Time,” which features a pioneering fusion of rap and go‑go; “Ego Trip,” which includes the hit “Basketball;” and in 1985, “America,” which received a MTV Monitor Award. From this album, Blow’s song “If I Ruled the World” became a Top 5 Hit on Billboard’s R&B chart. In 1997, Columbia/Sony recording artist Nas debuted at #1 on the Billboard’s Pop Album chart with a cover of “If I Ruled the World.”

In addition to Kurtis Blow, World Famous Hip Hop Family Day at The Koger Center is bringing the legendary Sweet G (“Games People Play”) to the stage. This year’s Hip Hop Family Day will also feature Sofrito & Soul’s Afro-Latino lineup; The Big Redd Radio Show’s Christian hip-hop set; Non-Stop Hip-Hop Live’s ode to South Carolina hip hop; Ice Cold Radio hosted by DJ Prince Ice; and FatRat Da Czar presenting MASTER SPLNTA’s Dojo.
